We built [pre.dev](https://pre.dev/) to give you a powerful, web-based workspace where coding agents plan, build, and verify software autonomously. But we also know that for many engineering teams, the terminal is home.

Today, we are thrilled to announce the launch of the [pre.dev CLI](https://docs.pre.dev/cli/overview). You can now bring the full power of our coding agents directly into your local repositories.

The CLI gives you the same intelligent chat, agent steering, and granular control you are used to from the web, but it operates exactly where your code lives. Read, modify, and execute directly within your local environment.

### **The Web Experience, Now on Your Machine**

Our goal was to make transitioning between the web workspace and your local terminal seamless. The CLI shares the exact same projects, sessions, and data as the web interface.

If you start a project from scratch in the web UI to build out a prototype, you can effortlessly pull it down and continue refining it via the CLI. Conversely, a multi-step build triggered locally will track perfectly on your web dashboard. The two environments stay in complete synchronization.

You still get access to everything that makes predev powerful:

- Autonomous planning and verification pipelines.
- Parallel execution with isolated sessions.
- Full control over model selection and effort allocation.

### **Why Use the CLI?**

While our web interface is perfect for rapid prototyping and clicking through hosted previews, the CLI is built for **integration and local control**.

- **Local Execution:** The agent interacts directly with your local file system. This means you can leverage your existing git workflows, run local tests, and review diffs exactly how you prefer.
- **Adopting Existing Repositories:** Dropping predev into an existing codebase has never been easier. Just navigate to your project directory and run the agent; it can ingest your existing files and map out the architecture automatically.
- **Uninterrupted Workflow:** If you live in the terminal, there is no longer a need to context-switch between your IDE and a browser tab.

### **How It Works**

Installation is a simple one-liner that downloads the agent, adds it to your PATH, and self-updates in the background:

`curl -fsSL https://pre.dev/install | bash`

Once installed, simply navigate to any project folder and type `predev` to launch the agent workspace. If you want to jump straight into a task, you can pass a prompt directly:

`predev "add dark mode to the settings page"`

Everything runs through the chat input, utilizing the same slash commands you already know.

Here is how a standard workflow might look in the terminal:

- **Map Existing Code:** Run `/reverse` to have the agent [analyze your existing local repository](https://docs.pre.dev/cli/existing-repos) and reverse-engineer it into the project's architecture graph.
- **Kickoff a Feature:** Use `/sprint implement the new authentication flow` to spin up a parallel session that builds the feature end-to-end while you continue working on something else.
- **Manage Resources:** Check your compute credits with `/balance` or seamlessly switch the LLM handling the task using `/model`.
- **Track Progress:** Need a high-level view? Commands like `/kanban`, `/roadmap`, and `/arch` render your project management views right there in the terminal.

Take the new predev CLI for a spin.

### About predev

[pre.dev](https://pre.dev/?ref=pre.dev) is built to provide professional engineering teams with hyper-intelligent and cost-efficient coding agents. These agents deliver scalable, self-verifying, and model-agnostic software development.

Professional software development requires agentic coding that deeply understands system architecture, mitigates technical debt, and respects your compute budget.
